Maputo (MOZTIMES)— Mozambique will continue to receive grants from the US government for programmes against HIV/AIDS, Health Minister Ussene Isse told journalists this Monday in the capital Maputo.
Isse said he met with the US ambassador to Mozambique, Peter Vrooman, following the 90-day suspension of funding to various global programmes by the administration of President Donald Trump.
“We have received information from the US that there are exemptions from this decision by Trump, and the health sector will be privileged in three major actions”, said Ussene Isse. “We learnt that this exemption covers the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child, counselling, and the logistics of the reagents, which will continue to receive funding”, added the Minister.
