This is the first significant change the President has made in the Armed Forces
Maputo (MOZTIMES) – President Daniel Chapo appointed Júlio Jane as Chief of the General Staff of the Mozambican Defence Forces (FADM) on Thursday, replacing Joaquim Mangrasse.
Jane has previously served as Director-General of the State Information and Security Service (SISE) and as General Commander of the Police.
In a statement, the President’s office announced that the new Chief of the General Staff will be sworn in this Friday.
This marks the first change President Chapo has made in the FADM since taking office as Commander-in-Chief.
Within the Police, Chapo has already reshaped the entire command structure, replacing the Minister of the Interior, the Deputy Minister, the General Commander of the Police and the respective Deputy Commander.
The position of Director-General of the State Information and Security Service remains vacant, following the death of the previous officeholder in a road accident in November 2024, the circumstances of which have yet to be clarified. (MT)
