Mozambique has estimated natural gas reserves of 180 trillion cubic feet (TFC), placing it in the top three of the continent's largest gas reserves. Three major offshore natural gas exploration and liquefaction projects are currently under development in the Rovuma Basin, all located in the Palma district of Cabo Delgado province, close to the border with Tanzania. The projects are operated by France's TotalEnergies (Mozambique LNG), Italy's Eni, SpA (Coral Sul FLNG) and the US company ExxonMobil (Rovuma LNG), with a total investment estimated at $60 billion. Other gas exploration and exploitation projects have been awarded to Chinese and Russian multinationals, among others, and are spread across the country from north to south but are at an embryonic stage of prospection.
