Maputo (MOZTIMES) – The Mozambican President, Daniel Chapo. has announced that his government will develop an action matrix outlining targets, deadlines, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure systematic follow-up on opportunities for economic and trade cooperation arising from his working visit to the Russian Federation.
Visibly enthusiastic, Daniel Chapo argued that these opportunities should not remain mere intentions but should translate into specific projects and measurable results for Mozambique.
Speaking at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday to take stock of his visit to attend the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit, Chapo said he was returning with prospects for closer economic and trade relations and opportunities requiring joint efforts and follow-up.
According to Daniel Chapo, the next step is to ensure that the opportunities identified in the Russian capital translate into concrete initiatives that deliver tangible results for the country.
“Our next step is to ensure that the possibilities identified in Moscow do not remain mere intentions on paper. As with the other missions we have undertaken abroad, these windows of opportunity should be translated into concrete results for our people,” Chapo stressed.
The president said that participation in the Russia–Africa Summit had helped strengthen dialogue between the participating heads of state and government, particularly between Russia and Africa more broadly, and between Russia and Mozambique specifically.
In this context, he highlighted the Action Plan for the next three years, which sets out areas of work to deepen the partnership between Africa and the Russian Federation and create conditions that better respond to African countries’ priorities, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Chapo also highlighted digital transformation, information and communication technologies, and the peaceful use of artificial intelligence as ways to modernise productive sectors, improve services for citizens and accelerate Mozambique’s progress towards economic independence.
Alongside the multilateral events, President Chapo held meetings with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the Deputy Chairperson of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, and leaders of Russian companies, including the chairperson of Gazprom’s Board of Directors, Alexey Miller. These discussions explored opportunities for cooperation and investment, including staff training, technology transfer and the creation of opportunities for Mozambicans. (MT)
