Maputo (MOZTIMES)—The Mozambican government launched a nationwide public consultation process on Monday in Inhambane to revise legislation governing the mining, energy, and hydrocarbons sectors.

The consultation process is being led by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) and covers five legal proposals, including revisions to the Mining and Petroleum Laws, a new Local Content Law, and new regulations on electricity concessions and the universal access tariff.

According to Minister Estêvão Pale, the goal is to ensure inclusive and meaningful participation by communities affected by natural resource exploitation.

The reforms aim to modernise the legal framework, improve governance, and ensure that the benefits of resource extraction reach local populations.

The internal process at MIREME began on 29 March, with the draft proposals validated on 28 May. The public dissemination phase started on 6 June, with the documents sent to public institutions, private entities, and civil society organisations. Public consultation seminars are being held from 14 to 21 July in nine provinces across the country. (MT)
