Mozambique is one of the main destinations for foreign direct investment on the African continent, mainly for exploration and exploitation of natural resources (forestry, mining, energy and fishing). Mozambique is also one of the top producers and exporters of electricity, rubies, graphite, coal and aluminium, and it also produces and exports significant quantities of fisheries produce and agricultural resources. Telecommunications, financial, hotel and tourism services are widely available in Mozambique and can be found in any small or medium-sized town. The Government controls strategic sectors through state-owned companies, including the management of ports, railways, airports, air transport services, and the supply of water and electricity.
