- Former Attorney General Beatriz Buchili named Presidential Adviser for Legal Affairs
- With the latest appointments, Daniel Chapo has completed the composition of his government and advisory team

Maputo (MOZTIMES) - President Daniel Chapo has appointed economist Mateus Magala as his Lead Adviser for Economic and Development Affairs, the president’s office announced in a press release this Thursday.
Magala is a senior Mozambican economist who previously served as Vice President of the African Development Bank (AfDB). During Filipe Nyusi’s last term, he was Minister of Transport and Communications. Before that, he chaired the Board of Directors of the state-owned company Electricidade de Moçambique, where he oversaw reforms that contributed to improving the company’s economic performance.
This Thursday, President Daniel Chapo finalised the appointments of his government members and advisers. Eduardo Mulémbwè, former Speaker of Parliament and former Attorney General, was assigned the last vacant ministerial position: Minister in the Presidency for Parliamentary, Municipal, and Provincial Assembly Affairs. With this appointment, the composition of the Council of Ministers is now complete, consisting of 20 ministers, two of whom are based in the Presidency. The other is Ricardo Sengo, Minister in the Presidency for Civil Affairs.
The remaining appointments announced yesterday pertain to presidential advisers. Former Attorney General Beatriz Buchili was named the President’s Adviser for Legal and Constitutional Affairs. Buchili was relieved of her duties as head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office last December after serving for a decade.
The other presidential advisers appointed include:
· Manuel Gonçalves (formerly Deputy Foreign Minister), Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs;
· Francisco Mucanheia, Adviser for Inter-Institutional Affairs (he was formerly an adviser to Nyusi);
· José Ajape Chironga, Adviser for Political Affairs;
· João Machatine (a former Minister of Public Works), as Executive Coordinator of the Office for Reforms and Projects
The appointees will be sworn in on Friday morning at the President’s office. (MT)
