Maputo (MOZTIMES) – The director of the State Intelligence and Security Service (SISE), Bernardo Lidimba, died in a car accident on Saturday in the Mapai district of Gaza province, about 400 kilometres from the capital, Maputo.

“The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident,” Interior Minister Pascol Ronda said in a press statement late Saturday. The accident happened at around 3.30pm local time. “A person accompanying Lidimba was injured,” the minister said, without giving further details.

Lidimba was appointed head of the intelligence service in May 2022. His death means that President Filipe Nyusi will have to appoint another intelligence chief, the fourth since Nyusi took office in 2015. (MT)
