Maputo, 18 Jun (Mozambique Times) - Mozambican gold production rose by four per cent in the first quarter of this year to 283 kilos, according to figures released by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy.
This marks something of a recovery, following the 17 per cent decline recorded in 2025, when the government ordered a suspension of mining in the central province of Manica due to serious environmental abuses. Mining companies had been polluting rivers in the province, particularly through the use of such toxic substances as mercury.
