Maputo (MOZTIMES) - Rather than encouraging Mozambican workers displaced by xenophobic violence in South Africa to return to their former jobs, the government is preparing to certify their professional skills and redirect them to labour markets in countries such as Portugal and the United Arab Emirates.
The new strategy was announced on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting in Maputo as authorities revealed that 1,363 Mozambicans have already been repatriated following anti-immigrant violence that intensified across several South African provinces since the end of June.
