Maputo (MOZTIMES) – President Daniel Chapo has bowed to criticism over the appointment of Waldemar de Sousa as Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, amid a lack of clarification over his involvement in the hidden debt scandal. This afternoon, the President’s Office announced in a statement that de Sousa’s appointment had been cancelled.
Felisberto Navalha, who was originally appointed Deputy Governor, will now serve as Governor of the central bank, according to the same statement. Benedita Manuel Guimino has been appointed Deputy Governor.
The two officials will be sworn in tomorrow at the President’s Office. (MT)
