Maputo (MOZTIMES) – The British Government intends to reduce its aid to Mozambique by 90 per cent by 2029.
This means that British aid would fall from the current 58.5 million euros to 5.8 million euros a year.
The excuse for such a severe cut is that Britain has adopted a strategy to gradually decrease official development assistance to the equivalent of 0.3 per cent of Gross National Income by 2027, following the Government’s decision to channel more resources into defense spending. The figures are contained in the 2025/26 Annual Report and Accounts of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom.
