Maputo (MOZTIMES) -The Mozambican government on Tuesday confirmed that nine of its citizens have died and hundreds more have been displaced following a wave of anti-foreigner violence in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, prompting coordinated efforts to assist those returning home.
Speaking after a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Maputo, government spokesperson and Health Minister Ussene Isse said the authorities had identified 884 Mozambican nationals affected by the situation, following reports that far right vigilantes have ordered foreign nationals to leave parts of KwaZulu-Natal by the end of May.
